I am delighted that you are being given the opportunity to study the SPRUCE programme. Since 2015, the programme has provided school students with an excellent opportunity to explore studying the law and working in the legal professions. The programme continues to go from strength to strength and I am very grateful to HHJ Rose for his hard work and dedication in successfully developing the programme. I am particularly pleased to see the programme can take place in person again, given the challenges we have faced during the pandemic.

I believe firmly in the importance of educating others about the justice system and the value of judicial independence and the rule of law. It is also vital that those who have the potential to become lawyers – and even judges – are helped to recognize such potential and to have access to opportunities that will support them.

There is a wide range of opportunities in the law and I hope that the next few days will inspire you to pursue your interest further and consider a possible career in the legal profession, perhaps even as a future judge.
